vidhook1. Agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of vidhook (the “Service”), a service operated as a sole proprietorship based in Japan. By creating an account, using an API key, or otherwise accessing the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization.
2. Definitions
- Service — the vidhook website, console, and rendering API.
- Credits — the prepaid units consumed when you render video.
- Source assets — images, video, audio, fonts, and other inputs you reference by URL.
- Output — the rendered video files the Service produces from your specifications.
3. Accounts and API keys
You sign in through Amazon Cognito and must provide accurate information. You are responsible for all activity under your account and API keys, including both your test key (vh_test_) and live key (vh_live_). Keep your keys confidential. The key you use determines which balance is charged and whether output is watermarked. Notify us promptly if you believe a key has been compromised.
4. The Service
vidhook renders video from JSON specifications. You submit a specification to the API and receive a render identifier; rendering runs asynchronously, and you retrieve the finished MP4 by polling or webhook. A free tier provides a weekly allowance of credits for watermarked test renders using a test key. We may change, add, or remove features, and we do not guarantee any particular uptime, availability, or rendering performance.
5. Credits, billing, and Merchant of Record
The Service is prepaid. One credit renders one second of Full HD video; 4K renders cost four credits per second. The cost of a render is its length multiplied by this rate.
- Purchased credits do not expire and have no cash value, are non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Free weekly credits reset each week and do not roll over, and are intended for watermarked test renders.
- Prices and credit pack contents may change; changes do not affect credits you have already purchased.
Payments are processed by Polar, acting as the Merchant of Record. When you buy credits, Polar is the seller of record and the party you transact with. Polar handles billing, collection, and any applicable taxes (such as VAT or sales tax). Your purchase is also subject toPolar’s buyer terms and conditions.
6. Refunds
Because Polar is the Merchant of Record, refunds are processed by Polar and are subject to its refund procedures and the buyer terms. Credits are digital goods delivered immediately. If a technical failure on our side prevents delivery of a render, the relevant credits are returned to your balance and not charged. If you close your account, any remaining credit balance is forfeited and is not refunded.
7. Your content and source assets
You are solely responsible for the JSON specifications you submit and the source assets you reference. You represent and warrant that you own or have all rights, licenses, and permissions necessary to use those assets and to produce the Output, and that your use does not infringe any third party’s rights or violate any law. We fetch source assets from the URLs you provide only to perform your render.
8. Ownership of output
As between you and vidhook, you own the Output you create, subject to any rights in the source assets you supplied. We claim no ownership of your specifications or Output. We store Output temporarily so you can download it (see our Privacy Policy).
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to create, store, or distribute content or to act in ways that:
- infringe intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights;
- are unlawful, defamatory, hateful, harassing, or that depict sexual content involving minors;
- impersonate a person or create non-consensual or deceptive synthetic media of real individuals;
- distribute malware or facilitate fraud;
- abuse the free tier, circumvent watermarks, or evade rate limits and usage controls;
- probe, scan, or test the security of the Service without authorization, or reverse engineer it;
- place an unreasonable load on, or attempt to disrupt, the Service.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
10. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, API, documentation, and the vidhook name and marks, is owned by vidhook and protected by law. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
11. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties, including Polar (payments) and Amazon Web Services (hosting, authentication, storage, and delivery). Your use of those services through vidhook is also subject to their terms. Source assets you reference are hosted by third parties outside our control.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that renders will meet your requirements.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, vidhook will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for credits in the twelve months before the claim and USD 50.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold vidhook harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your source assets, your Output, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time; on closure, your remaining credit balance is forfeited (section 6). We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the Service or its users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes relating to the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Japan where the operator is based. Your purchase of credits is separately governed by Polar’s buyer terms.
