1. Who we are
vidhook (“vidhook”, “we”, “us”) is a service operated as a sole proprietorship based in Japan. We operate a programmatic video rendering service: you send a JSON specification to our API and receive a rendered MP4 in return. This policy explains what personal information we handle and why. It applies to the vidhook website, the console at console.vidhook.app, and the rendering API.
Payments are processed by Polar, which acts as the Merchant of Record and seller of record for all purchases. Polar is an independent controller of the payment information you provide to it — see Polar’s legal documentsand section 6 below.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we create an account through Amazon Cognito. This includes your email address and the authentication identifiers Cognito issues. We do not store your password.
API keys and usage
We generate test (vh_test_) and live (vh_live_) API keys for your account and record how they are used — render requests, credit balances and transactions, render status, timestamps, and request metadata needed to operate billing and prevent abuse.
Content you submit for rendering
Your JSON specifications reference source assets (images, video, audio, fonts) by URL. To render a video we fetch those URLs from our cloud infrastructure and process their contents. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the data hosted at URLs you provide. Do not include personal data in source assets unless you have the right to process it.
Payment information
Purchases are handled by Polar. We do not receive or store your card number or full payment details. We receive confirmation of a completed order (for example an order identifier and the credit pack purchased) so we can add credits to your balance.
Technical and analytics data
Like most sites, our servers and CDN log technical data such as IP address, user agent, and request times. The marketing website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (see section 5).
3. How we use information
- To operate the service — authenticate you, run renders, and deliver output files.
- To manage credits and billing, including processing purchases and refunds via Polar.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
- To maintain security, detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and free-tier farming.
- To measure and improve the service in aggregate.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Source media and rendered output
Source assets are fetched only to perform the render you request. Rendered MP4 files are stored in our cloud storage and served from a CDN URL so you can download them. Output files are retained for a limited period to support download and delivery, then may be removed. Watermarked test renders are produced from free-tier (test-key) requests.
5. Cookies and analytics
Our marketing website uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies and collects usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device, and referral source, to help us understand traffic. You can opt out using theGoogle Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. The console and API function without analytics cookies.
6. Payments and Polar
Polar Software Inc. acts as our Merchant of Record. When you buy credits, you transact with Polar, and Polar collects and processes your payment and billing details (including any tax information) under its own privacy policy andbuyer terms. We recommend reviewing Polar’s legal documentsto understand how it handles your payment data.
7. Service providers and sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with providers that help us run the service:
- Amazon Web Services — hosting, authentication (Cognito), storage, and content delivery.
- Polar — payment processing as Merchant of Record.
- Google Analytics — aggregate website analytics.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of vidhook, our users, or the public.
8. International transfers
We use cloud infrastructure that may process and store data outside your country of residence. Where we transfer data internationally, we rely on the safeguards offered by our providers.
9. Data retention
We keep account information for as long as your account is active. Render metadata and transaction records are retained as needed to operate billing, meet legal and accounting obligations, and investigate abuse. When you close your account, your remaining credit balance is forfeited and your customer record with Polar is deleted or anonymized.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can delete your account from the console, or contact us to exercise these rights. For payment data held by Polar, contact Polar or use its customer portal.
11. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and scoped API keys. No system is perfectly secure; keep your API keys confidential and rotate them if you suspect they have been exposed.
12. Children
vidhook is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the service where appropriate.
